About this activity

This Merzouga desert tour from Agadir takes you across the Atlas foothills and the Draa-Dades region to the Erg Chebbi dunes, the big sand sea at the edge of the Sahara. It runs for three days and two nights, with hotel pick-up in Agadir or Taghazout and a driver-guide for the whole trip.

Day one follows a route of Berber villages, oases and kasbahs. You stop in Taliouine, known as the saffron capital of Morocco, then visit the UNESCO-listed Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. The night is in the Dades Gorges.

On day two you drive on through the Todgha area to Merzouga. You arrive at the dunes of Erg Chebbi and ride a camel across the sand to your tent. If you wake early, you can watch the sunrise from the middle of the desert.

Day three is mostly a drive back to Agadir. There are plenty of stops for restrooms, snacks and lunch, and you can ask the driver to stop wherever you like. It is a long trip, about 1,800 km in total, so it suits travelers who want to see the Moroccan interior and are happy to spend several hours a day on the road.
